BridgeHead Software today announced that UPMC Beacon Hospital, the South Dublin based hospital providing world-care services, has implemented its integrated backup solution to provide complete protection for all of the data within its MEDITECH Health Care Information System (HCIS).

UPMC Beacon Hospital recently upgraded from MEDITECH 5.5 to MEDITECH 5.6 and as such needed to implement a data protection software solution that would provide back up and recovery of all clinical and administrative data stored on its HCIS.

UPMC Beacon Hospital researched solutions in the market, and having worked with BridgeHead in the past, recognised they were able to provide a comprehensive data management solution for their environment.

BridgeHead’s Integrated Serverless Backup solution was therefore selected to create consistent point-in-time copies of all its HCIS data, ensuring that if an unforeseen disaster were to occur, hospital staff could quickly and easily retrieve the data. During the implementation planning, the decision was also made to use BridgeHead’s Replicate Tool, to help the hospital migrate their data as part of the upgrade.

“BridgeHead Software was the obvious choice for us as it is the only vendor truly capable of providing us a safe environment to replicate and back up our data from MEDITECH onto the SAN,” said David Mulqueen, IT Manager at UPMC Beacon Hospital. “BridgeHead has been instrumental in providing a seamless transition by creating an excellent test environment that we could then roll into live production.”

With BridgeHead Integrated Serverless Backup, UPMC Beacon Hospital can take advantage of a dedicated backup server controlling the backup schedule. This ensures that a static image of the database is backed up to the tape library.

“We are delighted to help UPMC Beacon Hospital with its storage needs,” said Jim Beagle, President and CEO of BridgeHead Software. “A recent international BridgeHead survey* revealed that although 65% of healthcare IT leaders said their data volumes had increased over the previous year, only 26% said they had “robust, tried-and-tested” disaster recovery plans in place. But by implementing our backup solution, Beacon are ensuring that the data is always accessible and secure, especially in the event of a system outage or disaster.”
