CHRISTUS Health

Company

CHRISTUS Health is an integrated healthcare network providing care to residents of six US states and Mexico.

Size

42 hospitals and numerous additional healthcare service facilities.

Geography

United States & Mexico: Christus serves more than 70 communities throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, as well as Monterrey and Saltillo, Mexico.

IT Infrastructure

99 MEDITECH servers located at primary data center; EMC DMX Storage Area Networks

Challenges

  • Create a new standard for operational and disaster recovery, and offsite data protection allowing CHRISTUS to routinely create point-in-time copies of its entire HIS environment.
  • Retain backup data on different tiers of storage to combat a variety of failure types.
  • Implement a rapid, unobtrusive backup and disaster recovery process, as well as 24/7 data availability and access to patient healthcare information and IT services.

Solutions

  • Backup and Disaster Recovery for clinical data

Products

BridgeHead’s HT Backup – Integrated Serverless Backup/Integrated Disaster Recovery

Results

  • Frequent point-in-time copies of the entire MEDITECH data environment are copied to suitable storage at an alternate location, keeping the HIS available in the event of a disaster.
  • Twice every day, a full replica of the primary MEDITECH volumes is created on an external SAN volume providing a means of data recovery in the event of failure on the primary SAN.
  • CHRISTUS also uses HT Backup to automate and manage daily WAN-based replication using EMC OpenReplicate as the replication utility to a remote disaster recovery site.
  • "The entire application moves massive amounts of data daily without impacting the primary application environment, allowing users to continue working with no visible interruption or slowdown in performance during backup procedures. At the same time, we can rest assured that if there is a major failure that requires bringing our operations up remotely, the recovery process will be fast and dependable because the data was preserved in a consistent state."

Testimonial

BridgeHead's technology manages all the disk and tape storage media, dynamically allocating volumes and managing the sophisticated archive retention cycles we have set up. This ensures that we are meeting our recovery point and time objectives and data availability commitments in the event of operational failure, disaster, or corruption of the mission-critical MEDITECH HIS database.
