Enterprise Data Management

We see organizations choosing between backup and archiving or using backup to archive. An organization should choose both-potentially overlapping the processes for incremental benefit, but when deciding which "best of breed" backup and archive solutions to go for, check - do they and will they integrate?

Enterprise Data Management relates to the needs of an organization to access the right data, at the right time and in the right format.

Backup and archiving are two distinct processes that deliver very different benefits. They can and should often intersect, but organizations rarely implement them in such a manner because each process requires separate products often sold by separate vendors.

BridgeHead Software removes the barriers between archiving and backup with its Enterprise Data Management product strategy. We combine our backup and archiving solutions by leveraging similar software components.

BridgeHead's two product lines enable customers to take a horizontal approach to backup and archiving.

Two product lines support BridgeHead's Enterprise Data Management solution strategy: Enterprise Data Archive and Enterprise Data Backup.

Enterprise Data Backup (EDB) leverages a full function media manager that allows organizations to backup data to disk and tape devices. Customers can back up Windows, Unix, Netware and most file servers. They can also backup several databases and specific applications like Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint environments, as well as MEDITECH healthcare applications. Policies regarding how many copies are created and where they are stored are established and carried out by the media manager. Customers no longer have to worry about making one copy at a time or whether a second copy is in the right place.

Enterprise Data Archive (EDA) products all leverage a common content index and repository. Policies can be established to move or copy information into the archive environment. When information is moved, a stub can be left so that the content can be accessed from its original location. In addition, the content index, along with a rich metadata catalog, allows authorized users to search the archive for specific content. As application files are ingested into the archive, a digital fingerprint is generated. The fingerprint facilitates "single instancing" where duplicate content is identified, ensuring that only one copy is stored in the archive. Retention periods can be set based on criteria such as the content type or who created the information and these retention periods are enforced by the repository. Other repository services include encryption for enhanced security and compression to reduce storage consumption. EDA currently supports Windows file server, SharePoint server and PACS archiving.

Customers can buy one backup or archive product at a time, knowing that their next investment will not require learning a new interface or configuring a repository as our product lines are fully integrated.
